Deacon Ministry

Did you know that each member of the Second Baptist Church Family has been assigned to a Deacon of the church who joins with the Pastor in ministering to the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of the congregation?

The Deacons’ Ministry provides a Deacon for every member and every family in the church. The question may be asked, “How can a deacon help me?” 1.) Becoming someone you can depend on. Deacon’s visit or call to become acquainted with member and make hospital or home visits when there is sorrow or sickness in the family. 2.) Witnessing to unsaved family members. Deacons are concerned that every member of the family is introduced to Jesus the Christ. 3.) Rejoicing with you and your family. Deacons will share your joy when you celebrate events and accomplishments. 4.) Being your friend. Deacons listen to your concerns as someone who cares. 5.) Giving support in times of crisis. Deacons provide guidance where possible to enable members to obtain support from community agencies. 6.) Answering questions about faith and doctrine. Deacons will answer or find the answers for you. 7.) Helping you to know and have fellowship with other members and families in the church. Deacons will encourage you to participate in social occasions when church members get together for fun and fellowship.  8.) Praying for you and with you. Prayer changes things and your Deacon will join with the Pastor and other Deacons to pray for you and your family.

In conclusion, your Deacon will encourage you to become an active member of the church: working with Auxiliaries, attending Sunday School and Bible Study, and providing a loving presence so that others may see and ask, “What must I do to be saved?” All Deacon Assignments are listed in the Church Telephone Directory.
